A Teenager in Göbeklitepe

Updated: Apr 28, 2023

This activity is a follow-up activity for 11th graders.

Objective: To encourage students to use their imagination and practice their writing skills in English.

Level: Beginner

Time: 15 minutes

Materials: Pen/pencil, paper

Instructions:

  1. Begin by introducing the topic of Göbeklitepe to the class. You can show them pictures or videos of the site, and give them some background information about its history and significance, or simply use the materials in your coursebook.

  2. Explain to the students that they are going to imagine themselves as teenagers living in Göbeklitepe during the time period when the site was being built. You can use the following sentences:

"Now, you are walking around Göbeklitepe. The sun is up, and it is warm. Feel the sunrays on your skin. Look around. People around you are building a temple. They are carrying stones. You are wearing a piece of cloth. It is yellow."

  1. Provide the students with a list of prompts to help them write their paragraphs. These prompts can include:

  • What kind of activities do you do in your daily life in Göbeklitepe?

  • What is your favorite thing about living in Göbeklitepe?

  • What do you think about the construction of Göbeklitepe?

  • What is your relationship with the other people in your community? Who is your best friend? What do you do together?

  • What do you hope for the future of Göbeklitepe?

  1. Give the students 5 minutes to write their paragraphs. Encourage them to use their imagination and creativity, and remind them to focus on using simple vocabulary and sentence structures.

  2. After the students have finished writing, ask a few volunteers to share their paragraphs with the class. Encourage the rest of the class to ask questions or provide feedback on their classmates' writing.

  3. You can also provide some feedback on their writing and encourage them to continue practicing their English skills.
